MNAC, half day trip in Barcelona

Today I bring you a very beautiful excursion that will allow you to admire Barcelona from the heights: a visit to the MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia). You can dedicate one morning and you will discover some of the most beautiful spots of the city. Choose a sunny day and you will get very nice pictures.

There is direct public transport to the MNAC, but I recommend you getting off at Plaza de España to admire the Las Arenas shopping center and the famous fountains of Montjuic. Climbing the main stairs towards the MNAC is a very nice walk and well worth it. Already before entering the museum you can admire incredible views.

The so-called National Palace was built for the International Exhibition in 1929, dedicated to an exhibition of Spanish art with more than 5,000 works from all over the country. The waterfalls and fountains of the steps of the Palace were the work of Carles Buïgas, and were placed nine large projectors that still emit intense bundles of light that write the name of the city in the sky. Among all the museum's collections the Romanesque art stands out, considered one of the most complete in the world. You will also find gothic, baroque, renaissance or modern art.

The entrance to the museum is also highly recommended. There are several types of tickets. If you just want to see the hall and its spectacular dome, access is free. If you also want access to the rooftop for a more impressive view, is 2€. And if you want to admire their temporary exhibitions, prices vary, but it's usually around 4€. Access to permanent exhibitions costs 12€ and gives you access for two days. On Saturdays the access is free from 3pm!

Happy Sunday!
Feliz domingo!

  1. Barcelona is very beautiful city indeed! Although I have to confess first time I visited Barcelona I didn't like it so much, not sure why maybe because I/we (it was in school) spent to much time on "city attractions". But after I visited Barelona on my own and just wander around the city I simply fell in love :)
