Love triangle: Florence, Siena and Arezzo

Today I bring you a post of our visit to some of the most emblematic cities in the Tuscany, Siena and Florence, and my crush on this trip, Arezzo. For each one of them we dedicate a whole day, although for Florence many more days are needed. We rented a car with Maggiore (through rentalcars.com), which had very low prices. All good, except for we had to wait for more than an hour and a half for the car because of the queue and the little staff available at the counter.

at I'Brindellone with my colleagues

In Florence we found free parking at Lungarno Francesco Ferrucci, near the S. Niccolo bridge, at the Ferrucci hotel. First we went around my old neighborhood, Santo Spirito, where I lived for almost two years. A neighborhood full of young people, students and bohemians. Perhaps the few central areas of Florence that still retains its Fiorentine spirit and is not completely colonized by tourists. We ate at I'Brindellone, the restaurant where I used to work when I lived in Florence! If you are in the area, I recommend it totally. Authentic Tuscan homemade food at a great price. At midday they have a menu for € 10. From here we went to Palazzo Pitti and its gardens and the most tourist center.

We cross the Santa Trinita bridge, to admire the Ponte Vecchio from there. We saw the Palazzo Spini Feroni of Salvatore Ferragamo, the market, the Republic Square, the Signoria Square, the Duomo, Santa Croce and, from there, we went up to the Piazzale Micheangelo to enjoy the sunset before going up to San Miniato .

Arezzo was the surprise of the trip. We had not planned to go, but it was relatively close to our accommodation and, on that particular day, we wanted to make an easy excursion to a place without many tourists and relatively small, to see it calmly and rest a bit. This is how we got to Arezzo, after reading a blog that described it as a little Florence that had fallen into disrepair. Then we discovered that La Vida Es Bella was filmed here. Here we also found free parking in via Monte Falco.

What surprised us most was that it still retains the charm of those picturesque cities that have not yet been invaded by tourism. Walking through its streets you could feel the rhythm of a real city on any given day. The Piazza Grande is wonderful. If you stand at its center and look around, you will find a Romanesque apse, a public fountain of the sixteenth century, a Baroque palace, a Gothic on the ground floor and Renaissance on the top floor, and the arcades of the Logges Vasari, from the 16th century. A surreal mix.

This was my third time in Siena, but it had never seemed so pretty to me like this time. We arrived in the afternoon and saw how the night was turning the city more unique if that was possible. To be such a tourist city we found it full of local life. We left the car just before entering the Porta Pispini, in front of a pharmacy. It was also free parking, and we walked to downtown via via dei Pispini which we thought was magical. All this first section seems full of students with second-hand shops and small places to eat. We toured the Campo square, the cathedral, the Communal palace, the Torre del Mangia and the Basilica of Santo Domingo. We eat at the Nannini pastry shop, tasty and at a great price.

In the next post I will talk about our visits to Pisa and Lucca. Happy weekend!
