Festival do Norte - Isla de Arosa

Today I bring you a post about one of the most incredible getaways of the year: three days at the Isla de Arosa (Galicia) enjoying good music at the Festival do Norte and better company, Natalia, aka the other half of #PanavisionPets.

There are improvised plans that, unexpectedly, become unique moments that catch you off guard. And so was our trip to this magical island, totally unknown for us, located at the very edge of the Iberian Peninsula.

As many of you already know, I love Glass Animals. I really wanted to see them live. Looking for live concerts in Spain, I find out they had only two dates in Spain: SOS in Murcia (already passed) and the Festival do Norte, on an island from which I had never heard before, the island of Arousa. I began making some research about the island and the festival. I liked what I found. I checked prices on flights and accommodation. Cheap. I called Natalia. She was in. We bought  everything. We were going!

Me gustó. Comprobé precios de vuelos y alojamiento. Barato. Llamé a Natalia. Se apuntaba. Compramos todo. ¡Nos íbamos!

And so we arrived to the Island. Well, there was a small incident the previous day. We had booked the hotel on another island. Slight drawback that the Galician kindness transformed into an anecdote. The friendly Hotel San Vicente canceled our reservation without any charge (thank you so much!) and we found accommodation at Camping the Arco Iris, a totally endearing old-school family camping. (If you read me, we still want a shirt with the logo of your camping on it!).

The distance between the campsite and the hotel was a 2km bridge, the wind and the feeling that the bridge stretched with every step we took. We nicknamed it the Wall. Finally we decided to rent bikes at Vai en Bike to move freely around the island. I wanted to add how kind the owner was, but absolutely ALL the people we met in Galicia were. Surely Galician were the ones who made this trip wonderful.

Acabamos apodándolo The Wall.

The island has 36km of coast, easily to tour by bike. The places of interest are the surroundings of the lighthouse, the center of the village, the port Xufre, Carreirón Nature Reserve and its 11 km of white sandy beaches. The most important ones are Area da Secada, La Lavanqueira, El Bao, Camaxe, Carreirón, Espiñeiro and O Cabodeiro.

Destacan La Area da Secada, La Lavanqueira, El Bao, Camaxe, Carreirón, Espiñeiro y O Cabodeiro.

The Festival do Norte is a small festival (the way I like), with only 5000 tickets. There is a main stage, concerts in the auditorium and also in some bars in the center of the island. The atmosphere is fantastic and the whole island turns at the festival. Weather is something random (we are in Galicia) but we were lucky and we could enjoy enough sunshine (and sleep with blanket at night).

Another group I desperately wanted to see was Other Lives. Unfortunately they had several technical problems and the show was quite brief and not in the best conditions. Glass Animals, however, gave a spectacular live show!
