What to see in Dalston, London

In my previous post I talked about Shoreditch, one of the trendiest neighborhoods in London. Today, however, I bring you a post about Dalston, a more unknown neighborhood, but is poised to be the successor of Shoreditch. If you go to London, you can't leave without visiting Dalston. It is also very close to Shoreditch, so you can walk from one neighborhood to the other.

En mi anterior post os hablaba de Shoreditch, uno de los barrios de moda de Londres. Hoy, sin embargo, os traigo un post sobre Dalston, un barrio más desconocido pero que va camino de ser el sucesor de Shoreditch. Si vas a Londres,  no puedes dejar de visitarlo. Además, está muy cerquita de Shoreditch y puedes ir andando de un barrio al otro.

On Saturday, Broadway Market is really cool. It's not big but it's got a great atmosphere- lots of cool people just hanging about and drinking. The market has lots of food stalls and there are little coffee shops like Climpsons or Pavillion. Don't get there before 12.00 as it doesn't get good till the afternoon. Cat & Mutton pub is cool and London Fields park also (in the summer that park is full of people having bbqs). There's also The Dove pub on Broadway Market that has been there for years- dirty old place but nice atmosphere. Does lots of fruit beers. Also Netil House is just near Broadway market, it has a cool bar with a roof terrace.

El sábado no te pierdas el Broadway market. No es muy grande pero tiene un ambiente increíble - lleno de gente cool, comida deliciosa y bebidas locales. Recorre todos sus puestos e intenta decidir qué comer. También encontrarás pequeñas cafeterías como Climpsons o Pavillion. No vayas antes de las 12h porque es por la tarde cuando más ambiente hay. También hay varios pubs recomendables como Cat & Mutton, The Dove Pub (con gran variedad de cervezas afrutadas) o Neteil House (con una azotea que no te puedes perder). Igualmente, te recomiendo pillarte un bocadillo y disfrutarlo en el parque London Fields (en verano está lleno de gente haciendo BBQ).

If you walk to the other end of the market you reach the canal, very nice to walk along. You will find many small-diy-style bars, arts venues and hundreds of small house-boats. From here you can head down to Kingsland Road - rough and not specially pretty part of Dalston -  but somehow charming and with lots of bars like Dalston Superstore, Birthday or The Haggerston Pub. Try to see a live concert at hip Cafe Oto.

Si caminas hasta el final del mercado, llegarás al canal. Es muy agradable recorrerlo y descubrir su infinidad de pequeños bares, galerías de arte y casas-barco. Desde aquí puedes llegar a una de las calles más conocidas de Dalston, Kingsland Road. No es especialmente bonita, pero tiene su encanto y esta llena de bares recomendables como Dalston Superstore, Birthday o The Haggerston Pub. Si puedes, no te pierdas un concierto en Cafe Oto.

Don't miss the Columbia Road Flower market on Sunday. It's pretty cool and there are lots of nice places to eat or drink. Dalston may have a reputation for amazing Turkish food, (try the amazing Mangal 2) but eating in this market is a must! You can also have a typical English Sunday roast dinner at The Royal Oak pub. 

El domingo no te pierdas el Columbia Road Flower market. Un mercado lleno de flores, pero también de comida local y mucho ambiente.  Dalston es conocido por su increíble comida turca (no dejes de probar Mangal 2) pero también puedes disfrutar de un clásico asado inglés dominical en el pub The Royal Oak.

For shopping there are also some amazing store you shouldn't miss. One of those is LNCC, not easy to find, but neither to forget. LN-CC is no ordinary boutique. You can risk walking up and buzzing to get in, but they'll only open up 'depending on demand'. Is located underneath a drab office block, which you enter via a very ordinary side door. Beyond Retro It’s difficult to walk into this east London institution and not be dazzled by the rainbow rails. With a decade under its belt, this branch offers one of the widest selection of retro-wear in London, all under one roof. And Kristina Records, and independent record shop that attracts locals from the Dalston area, as well as crate diggers from across London. Kristina will also buy or exchange single records or collections.

También hay tiendas únicas para ir de shopping. LN-CC es, sin duda, una de ellas. No es fácil encontrarla, pero tampoco olvidarla. Se encuentra en el bajo de un bloque totalmente impersonal de oficinas, y se entra por una puerta lateral muy común tocando el timbre. Beyond Retro, una institución en cuanto a ropa vintage y de segunda mano. Y Kristina Records, tienda de discos independiente que atrae igual a locales de la zona como a gente de la city. Kristina también compra e intercambia.
