St. Sebastian's Day

Hello everyone! I've been quite missing for the last few weeks. I had a friend's visit, some birthday parties and, let's not fool ourselves, I've been also quite lazy :) It must be winter! Hahahaha But there are no more excuses and today I bring you a very special post about one of the most beautiful days of my hometown, St. Sebastian.

Those who follow me on Instagram have already see that I spent a few days in St. Sebastian to celebrate their patron. I haven't been there celebrating it for more than a decade, and it made me very happy to come back to relive it.

my school marching!

St. Sebastian's Day begins on January 20th at 00:00 hours with the raising of the flag in charge of the tamborrada (drum festival) of Gaztelubide, in the Constitution Square. For 24 hours Donosti becomes a party of drums and barrels. Throughout the city you can hear the hymns of Sarriegui. At 24:00 hours the tamborrada of the Union Artesana is in charge of lowering the flag and ending the party. The tamborrada is to the San Sebastian what San Fermines to the pamplonicas or the fair of April to the Sevillians. It is, without doubt, the most beautiful day of the year in Donosti.

Another emotional moment of the day is the parade of the children's tamborrada on the 20th at noon. Most of the city's schools participate with their colorful uniforms. The first uniforms of the Tamborrada reproduce those used by the Guipuzcoan battalions, who intervened actively in the War of Independence, taking in this era the French style of military dress. As the number of participants increased, other companies entered, with other uniforms. But everyone is inspired by that time

Without a doubt, this is a beautiful time to visit St. Sebastian and enjoy one of its most beloved traditions. Here also a few photos of the city made by my mother, which, as you can see, is a real photographer! Happy Week!

¡Feliz semana!
