Delicious escape to Mexico City

Today I rescued another one of those trips that I had forgotten on ny hard drive ... Mexico. Many years ago, I spent almost a month touring this wonderful country. This was without a doubt one of the trips that I have enjoyed the most. I really wanted to come back. This was a 4-day short trip, but it gave me time to make a small gastronomic route that I totally recommend you!

Hoy os traigo otro de esos viajes que tenía olvidados en el disco duro… México. Hace años pasé casi un mes recorriéndome este maravilloso país. Sin duda uno de los viajes que más he disfrutado en mi vida y que nunca olvidaré. Tenía muchas ganas de volver. Este fue un viaje relámpago de 4 días, pero me dio tiempo de hacer una pequeña ruta gastronómica totalmente recomendable!

We stayed at the Hiton Mexico City Reforma, in the historic center of Mexico City. On our first day, we toured the old part of the city visiting Alameda central, Palacio de Bellas Artes,  Plaza del Zócalo and had dinner at one of the most traditional gastronomic places in the city, Café Tacuba. Here, in addition to savoring traditional Mexican dishes, we also enjoy mariachis and tequilas.

Nos alojamos en el Hiton México City Reforma, en el centro histórico de Ciudad de México. El primer día recorrimos la parte antigua de la ciudad, la alameda central, el Palacio de Bellas Artes, la plaza del Zócalo y cenamos en uno de los locales gastronómicos más tradicionales de la ciudad, el Café Tacuba. Aquí, además de saborear platos tradicionales mexicanos, también disfrutamos de sus mariachis y tequilas.

The following day we stroll through Polanco, one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the city, nice for walking and enjoying its restaurants, shops and museums such as Anthropology, the Soumaya Plaza Carso museum or the aquarium. Here we ate at the Villa María restaurant, also mexican traditional cuisine (don't forget to try the tacos, DELICIOUS !!!!). Then we had dinner at Dulce Patria, considered one of the best restaurants in the country. The restaurant is not cheap (about € 70 per person) but you will taste Mexican cuisine like never before. More than a menu, Dulce Patria offers a sensory experience, each of its dishes is inspired by the love of Mexico.

Al día siguiente paseamos por el barrio de Polanco, uno de los barrios más exclusivos de la ciudad por donde es agradable pasear y disfrutar de sus restaurantes, tiendas y museos como el de Antropología, el museo Soumaya Plaza Carso o el acuario. Aquí comimos en el restaurante Villa María, también de cocina tradicional (no dejéis de probar los tacos, DELICIOSOS!!!!). Luego cenamos en Dulce Patria, considerado uno de los mejores restaurantes del país. El restaurante no es barato (unos 70€ por persona) pero degustarás la cocina mexicana como nunca. Más que un menú, Dulce Patria ofrece una experiencia sensorial. Y cada uno de sus platillos está inspirados en el amor a México.

The next day we spent the whole morning at the colorful Mercado de Artesanías La Ciudadela, a few minutes walk from our hotel. Here you can go crazy buying wonderful local crafts: piñatas, dresses, handmade toys, colored guitars, ceramics, colorful tin hearts, paintings ... Time flies in here and you want to buy everything! You can eat delicious tacos at the Fonda Carmelita.

Al día siguiente nos pasamos toda la mañana en el colorista Mercado de Artesanías La Ciudadela, a escasos minutos caminando desde nuestro hotel. Aquí os podéis volver locos comprando maravillosa artesanía local: piñatas, vestidos, juguetes hechos a mano, guitarras de colores, cerámica, corazones coloristas de hojalata, pinturas… El tiempo vuela aquí dentro y te lo quieres comprar todo! Podéis comer en la Fonda Carmelita deliciosos tacos.

In the afternoon we went for a drink to Malaquita Rooftop, also in the historic center. Located on the City Center Hotel, the swimming pool in one of its great attractions along with the spectacular view of the Latin American tower in the center of Mexico City. Weekly, Malachite offers national and international DJ sessions, accompanied by a wide range of fusion cuisine.

Por la tarde fuimos a tomar algo al Malaquita Rooftop, también en el centro histórico. Situada sobre el Hotel City Centro, la piscina en uno de sus grandes atractivos junto con la espectacular vista hacia la torre latino americana del centro de la Ciudad de México. Semanalmente, Malaquita ofrece sesiones de Djs nacionales e internacionales, acompañadas de una amplia oferta de gastronomía fusión.

From here we went to dinner at Hotel Casa Awolly, the mystical bar in the city with esoteric drinks in Colonia Roma. The decoration of the bar is inspired by the Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elégantes (Congolese subculture of dandis that use their outfits as expression and rebellion); In addition, works made by national or international artist always hang on its walls. De aquí nos fuimos a cenar al Hotel Casa Awolly, el bar místico de la ciudad con bebidas esotéricas en la Colonia Roma. La decoración del bar está inspirada en la Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes (subcultura congoleña de dandis que utilizan sus atuendos como expresión y rebeldía); además, en sus paredes siempre cuelgan obras realizadas por un artista nacional o internacional.
