Golden Kyoto

I'm almost finish with all the places we visited in Japan that I want to show you. Today I bring you one of the classic routes in Kyoto: Golden Pavilion, Heian Jingu shrine and Kiyomizu-dera.

[play&read]

Kinkaku-ji or Golden Pavilion is one of the most famous places in Kyoto. This was my third visit to this place, but the first one with such a blazing sun! It is wonderful to see its golden walls shining under the sun. It was originally built in 1397 as a holiday village and it has lovely grounds.

From here we went to the Heian Jingu shrine . Another temple I visited on my first trip to Japan that I was keen to see it more calmly. The Heian Jingu was built in 1895 to mark the 1100th anniversary of the founding of Heian-kyō (the old name of Kyoto). The shrine is dedicated to Kanmu emperors, founder of Kyoto as capital and Kōmei, last emperor to reside in Kyoto. Its vast esplanade crowned by symmetric red buildings hides a lush courtyard garden. Strongly recommended.

Totalmente recomendable.

Lastly we visited Kiyomizu-dera (Temple of pure water). The main hall has a large veranda, supported by tall pillars, that juts out over the hillside and offers breathtaking views of the city. There is not a single nail used in the entire structure. During the fall, their trees acquire an incredible red color and the temple opens at night illuminating the entire structure. The Japanese flock to enjoy this spectacle and so did we! Beautiful!

Precioso!

Have a nice weekend!
Feliz fin de semana!
