Oslo in 3 days

Before going to Oslo, the only thing I had in mind was that, according to most blogs and forums, there was not much to see and that a couple of days was more than enough to get to know this city. And perhaps it is really so, but Oslo is also more than that. I suppose, in a tight schedule to visit this country with so much to offer, a few days in Oslo is more than enough. However, as you spend days in the city, you will discover its secret corners and it will conquer you little by little. We were lucky enough to spend three full days in this city that doesn't win in first impressions but it does when you go deeper.

What you can't miss:

1. The center of Oslo:
  • Walk Karl Johans Gate up to the Royal Palace
  • The City Hall. A building with Soviet reminiscences.
  • The Port. Here we were lucky enough to enjoy a free tasting market of Norwegian products!

Lo que no puedes dejar de ver:

2. Aker Brygge: the old shipyard in Oslo and currently a new neighborhood where old industrial buildings have been transformed into shops and museums. A place where the modern architecture is at the service of the environment -in making the most efficient energy saving and reuse of resources- buildings in the world. Here we find a StreetFood Market one day and ate cheap and yummy!

3. Damstredet: This is a charming and pictoresque part of town with well-preserved and inhabited wooden houses from the late 18th and early 19th century.

4. Sagene: one of our favorite neighborhoods.
  • Sagene Kirke: a cheerful church that gives character to the neighborhood
  • Kaffegram: the cafe where you'll eat the best cinnamon rolls of your life.
  • Pontoppidans gate's residential area: a group of houses immersed in a private garden that will make you dream about living there.
  • The river Akerselva: cross it walking up to Grünerløkka. You'll pass through waterfalls, bridges, old factories and terraces at water's edge that will make you feel out of town.

5. Grünerløkka: the"hipster" area of Oslo. In this case, this adjective refers more to a young and bohemian neighborhood than to a trendy one. Anyway, one of my favorite places in Oslo and really worth a visit.
  • Blå: A club in an old factory along the river. To reach the door you have to access by a small alley decorated with graffitis and a spectacular crystal chandelier. During the day it's a cafeteria and at night transforms into a club with live music every day. The best day to go is Sunday, when there is a flea market. You can also enjoy the lively riverside terrace if it's not too cold.
  • Café Liebling: where you can also buy different souvenirs and clothing.
  • Cafeteria RetroLykke: where besides savoring homemade pastries you can also buy furniture, retro decor and kitchen utensils (even Cathrineholms!)

6. Vigeland Park: the original name is Frogner Park, but everyone calls it Vigelandspark because its famous sculptures and monolith created by Vigeland. Its visit is a must. A very special place.

Tips:
- The cheapest option to go from the airport to the city center is with NSB trains (not express). The ticket costs 90 NOK, takes less than 30' to reach Oslo Central Station and, with the same ticket, you can use public transport in the city (1 hour maximum). There are trains every 30 minutes. You can purchase tickets at the airport machines paying by credit card.
- We walked all over the city. The truth is that we love walking, but it is quite feasible.
- We didn't like the recommended-by-everyone viking ship museum. Totally expendable. It is a giant room with 3 Vikings ships.
- We stayed at this airbnb apartment and loved in there!
